Hands-on: Recognition and Management of Medical Emergencies: Participate in an Advanced & Realistic Clinical Simulation
Presented by: Dr. Jeffrey Young
Medical Emergencies can and will occur in the dental office. Having a medical emergency plan in place can make a difference. This course will present a practical, easy to utilize medical emergency plan. In addition, medical emergency equipment and medications will be discussed, as well as recognition and treatment of common medical emergencies.
In addition to the didactic portion of the course, you will experience clinical simulations through the use of SimMan in a realistic dental office environment with professional trainers. This unique opportunity will help you to be better prepared to recognize and manage several of the more common medical emergencies. All simulations will be recorded and reviewed with the professional trainers.
This is a two day course, with approximately six hours of didactic instruction and six - eight hours of clinical simulation. The simulation center is located in the basement of Children’s Hospital Colorado. The second day will provide the opportunity for you to assume multiple roles in managing several different medical emergency scenarios. Examples of common medical emergencies that have been developed for the simulation center include vasovagal syncope, hypoglycemia, allergic reaction, local anesthetic adverse reaction and overdose, bronchospasm and acute asthma attack, angina and myocardial infarction, and transient ischemic episode.
