What you will do:
Performs routine paraprofessional, clerical, and full-scale chair side dental assistance work in the care and treatment of patients in the senior dental clinic of the Tri-County Health Department.
The Senior Dental Assistant position is typically performed by fully functioning incumbents who have completed the requirements of an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA) program and have demonstrated the skills and ability to provide the full scale of chair side assist duties.
Assists the dentist in the examination and treatment of patients and performs dental assisting duties in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Colorado Dental Practice Act and policies and procedures established by TCHD.
Assists the Dentist in routine examination and treatment of patients. Prepares dental trays, charts mouth and teeth of patients, takes dental impressions, performs 4-handed dentistry, and takes dental radiographs.
Prepares temporary splints for temporary crowns and soft bruxism guards at the direction of the dentist.
Sterilizes instruments and maintains and cleans equipment and work area pursuant to established guidelines.
Maintains stock and orders routine dental supplies and equipment as needed.
Prepares and maintains dental charts and records.
Obtains medical history forms and interviews patients to obtain information in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Performs routine clerical work in support of clinic activities including scheduling appointments, assisting patients, and entering data into computer.
Reviews eligibility and residence information to determine patient qualifications for TCHD dental programs.
Provides educational materials and instructions to patients on oral hygiene methods and post-operative treatment instructions and denture care.
Requirements you will need:
Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from high school or equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Requires completion of a standard dental assistant program. Two years’ experience as a dental assistant preferred.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Policies and procedures of a dental clinic.
• Procedures and regulations guiding the sterilization and maintenance of dental equipment and supplies.
• Techniques for maintaining oral hygiene.
• Operation of standard office equipment including fax machines, copiers, and computers
Salary Range: $16.00 – 20.00/hour. Offers are based on skills, education, experience and internal equity.
