MDDS Presents: Local Anesthetics, Vasoconstrictors and Clinical Considerations
October 26 @ 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Presented by Mr. Tom Viola
Management of odontogenic pain may be accomplished through a clinical approach that successfully incorporates intraoperative local anesthesia. However, improper and inappropriate use of local anesthetic agents has the potential to produce life-threatening, systemic adverse reactions. Thus, a thorough knowledge of the pharmacology and therapeutics of local anesthetic agents is essential for their safe and effective use.
Get details about local anesthetic agents commonly used in dental practice. Develop strategies and techniques essential to accurately identify the need for pain control, individualize patient care and assess the efficacy of the local anesthetic agents being administered.
- Explain the basic mechanism of action of local anesthetic agents.
- Differentiate between the two major classes of local anesthetic agents with respect to their distribution, metabolism, adverse effects, drug interactions and contraindications.
- Discuss the rationale for the use of vasoconstrictors in local anesthetic solutions and their potential effects in common organ system disease states.
- Specify the various local anesthetic agent combinations most commonly used in dentistry and the rationale for their use in specific clinical situations.

MWDI Parking Information
For your convenience, we have free parking in two retail garages within the Beauvallon building (east-facing side). Both garages are accessed from Lincoln Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. Parking in these garages is available on a first-come, first-served basis. ** If you are attending a large course/event at the MWDI, we recommend arriving early in case the garages fill and alternative parking must be secured. Be aware – The garages come up quickly after you cross 9th Avenue and both have left lane entrances. All numbered spaces within both retail parking garages (without “Reserved” signs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not park in any spaces marked “Matrix” or “KCNC.” Do not park in the residential parking. Residential garages are at the back of the retail garages. The north and south garages are not connected. Both have open parking available. See link for more information.
