A Secret Pay Raise: How Embezzlers Think and Act
Presented by Dr. Pat Little

IMPORTANT NOTE: This course is available only to dentists and their spouses.

While the majority of dental teams are loyal and honest, it only takes one desperate individual to financially ruin a practice! Traditional internal control strategies are useful and important, but
they have limitations and may not be as effective as doctors think. Many doctors fail to discover fraud and embezzlement until significant damage has occurred. Learn how to mitigate damages by recognizing important warning signs associated with embezzlement and by understanding the characteristics and behaviors of an embezzler. It is important to realize that embezzlers think like criminals and do not follow our rules. Dr. Little teaches through case studies he has personally investigated to provide visual images of how embezzlers think.

1. Recognize the profile of a typical embezzler
2. Understand what leads to embezzlement in dental offices
3. Analyze the strengths and limits of internal controls strategies
4. Learn actions that need to be taken beyond internal controls
5. Identify red flag behaviors that are often associated with embezzlement

Dr. Pat Little is a dentist and accountant. He started two private practices from “scratch” and has over thirty years of varying dental experiences. After leaving clinical practice due to disability, Dr. Little completed accounting and general business education. He earned the Certified Fraud Examiner certification and joined Prosperident as a senior fraud examiner. Dr. Little conducts embezzlement examinations and advises dentists in matters related to fraud and embezzlement.

MWDI Parking Information
For your convenience, we have free parking in two retail garages within the Beauvallon building (east-facing side). Both garages are accessed from Lincoln Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. Parking in these garages is available on a first-come, first-served basis. ** If you are attending a large course/event at the MWDI, we recommend arriving early in case the garages fill and alternative parking must be secured. Be aware – the garages come up quickly after you cross 9th Avenue and both have left lane entrances. All numbered spaces within both retail parking garages (without “Reserved” signs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not park in any spaces with a red sign that says “Matrix” or “KCNC.” Do not park in the residential parking. Residential garages are at the back of the retail garages. The north and south garages are not connected. Both have open parking available.
