SUMMARY:MDDS Presents: HANDS-ON Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Administration Training
DESCRIPTION:HANDS-ON Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Administration Training\nPresented by Dr. Jeffrey Young \nAnxiety and pain are two of the main obstacles to the acceptance of dental care. Appropriate administration and use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen can be a safe\, effective means to alleviate mild to moderate fear and anxiety. In addition\, it may diminish responses to pain and elevate pain threshold. \nThis course will provide an introduction to the pharmacology\, mechanism of action and effects of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen. The goals of anxiolysis\, including clinical applications\, indications\, advantages/disadvantages and biohazards of administration will be presented. The monitoring and recognition of potential complications will be discussed. \nA review of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen equipment and technique for safe administration will be presented followed by a demonstration of the administration and use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen inhalation equipment in a dental clinic setting. Participants will then practice administration and monitoring using actual inhalation equipment. \nThis is a one-day course with approximately five (5) hours of classroom instruction followed by two (2) hours of clinical demonstration and practice. At the end of this course\, participants will clearly understand the indications for use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen and be able to provide safe administration and monitoring. \nObjectives\n– Discuss and understand the basic pharmacology and effects of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\n– Review the anesthesia continuum and the Colorado Dental Board regulations regarding the administration and monitoring of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen in the dental office\n– Know the goals of anxiolysis including advantages and disadvantages of inhalation administration\n– Discuss indications and contraindications for safe administration of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\n– Understand how to monitor patients and recognize potential complications of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\n– Review the inhalation equipment used for administration of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen in dental offices\n– Become proficient in administration and monitoring of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen by practicing with inhalation equipment in a clinical setting \nDr. Jeffrey Young earned his DDS from the University of Iowa and is a retired Army Colonel. SUMMARY:Infection Control Webinar Series: What’s In Your Water? Keeping Your Dental Unit Waterlines Safe for Your Patients
DESCRIPTION:Infection Control Webinar Series: What’s In Your Water? Keeping Your Dental Unit Waterlines Safe for Your Patients\nPresented by Alyssa Aberle\, MBA\, RDH\, CDIPC \nIn 2022\, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) issued a health advisory related to outbreaks of nontuberculous mycobacteria infections and the high importance of maintaining and monitoring dental unit waterlines. Dental teams and patients have become increasingly aware of the risks from receiving treatment involving contaminated water sources. While many dental offices take steps to treat or maintain dental unit waterlines\, we need to be proactive about monitoring the bacterial loads in our waterlines to ensure that we are not putting our patients at risk. \nObjectives: \n\nReview the microbiology of dental unit waterlines and the infectious risks that can be present\nDiscuss dental unit waterline maintenance options and strategies to help maintain low bacterial loads in our dental units\nEstablish protocols for testing and monitoring dental unit waterline quality and what to do if dental unit waterline tests show increased levels of bacteria\n\nMs. Alyssa Aberle is a  graduate of the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine’s dental hygiene program. Alyssa has spent her dental hygiene career working with several local nonprofit organizations. She has a Certificate in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC) and works with dental teams to provide annual OSHA and infection control training\, audit preparation\, and consulting to help implement better infection prevention practices for their patients. Ms. Aberle’s background as the Infection Control Coordinator for a large multi-site community health center gives her expertise in implementing systems to efficiently provide safe care. \nPlease note: This course is not intended to meet the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens annual training requirement as outlined in the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.  This course is intended to be a “closer look” at a specific infection control-related topic to supplement the annual OSHA training required for all employees in your practice. \nDate: Thursday\, September 12\, 2024 \nTime: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nRate:\n$0 MDDS Member\n$0 MDDS Member Dental Team\n$25 MDDS Non-Member\n$25 MDDS Non-Member Dental Team \nLocation: Zoom Webinar \nCredits: 1 \nFormat: Virtual \nCancellation Deadline: September 6\, 2024 \nRegistration Deadline: September 11\, 2024 \nCancellation Policy\nCancellations will be accepted and are entitled to a refund provided they are received at MDDS by the cancellation deadline. SUMMARY:Infection Control Webinar Series: Top 10 Most Common OSHA & Infection Control Violations in the Dental Practice
DESCRIPTION:Top 10 Most Common OSHA & Infection Control Violations in the Dental Practice\nPresented by Alyssa Aberle\, MBA\, RDH\, CDIPC \nMany dental teams fear the day they may have an OSHA or Dental Board inspection. Compliance with OSHA\, CDC guidelines\, and Dental Board rules and regulations are manageable with the right systems in place. In this course\, we’ll discuss the most common violations that are cited by both OSHA and the Colorado Dental Board and how practices can avoid these common mistakes. \nObjectives: \n\nEstablish resources for dental teams to learn and understand OSHA standards\, CDC guidelines\, and dental board rules and regulations\nReview common violations seen by the Colorado Dental Board and OSHA when inspecting dental practices\nDiscuss how offices can implement systems to educate their dental teams\, practice more efficiently\, and ensure patient safety\n\nMs. \nDate: Thursday\, June 20\, 2024 \nTime: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nRate:\n$0 MDDS Member\n$0 MDDS Dental Team\n$25 MDDS Non-member\n$25 MDDS Non-member Dental Team \nLocation: Zoom Webinar \nCE Credits: 1 \nFormat: Webinar \nCancellation Deadline: June 14\, 2024 \nRegistration Deadline: June 19\, 2024 \nCancellation Policy\nCancellations will be accepted and are entitled to a refund provided they are received at MDDS by the cancellation deadline. SUMMARY:Infection Control Webinar Series: Best Practices for Post-Exposure Protocol in the Dental Office
DESCRIPTION:Infection Control Webinar Series: Best Practices for Post-Exposure Protocol in the Dental Office\nPresented by Alyssa Aberle\, MBA\, RDH\, CDIPC \nHaving an exposure in the dental office can cause a lot of worry and fear. Being prepared for these situations is the key. In this course\, we’ll turn potentially serious situations into opportunities for confident and informed action in the dental office. This course will educate team members about exposure risks in the dental office\, prepare team members to communicate with patients about these risks\, and equip them to communicate with the occupational health clinic about their care. \nObjectives: \n\nDiscuss common exposures in the dental office and associated risks\nAssist the dental team in preparation of a “Grab & Go” packet for post-exposure protocols\nEquip the dental team with resources and tools to effectively communicate with patients about exposure incidents and their role in preventing disease transmission\nProvide dental team members with information to appropriately discuss their care plan with an occupational health provider\n\nMs. \nDate: Thursday\, March 14\, 2024 \nTime: 6:30pm – 7:30pm \nRate:\n$0 MDDS Member\n$0 MDDS Member Dental Team\n$25 MDDS Non-Member\n$25 MDDS Member Dental Team \nLocation: Zoom Webinar \nCredits: 1 \nFormat: Virtual \nCancellation Deadline: March 8\, 2024 \nRegistration Deadline: March 13\, 2024 \nCancellation Policy\nCancellations will be accepted and are entitled to a refund provided they are received at MDDS by the cancellation deadline.
