DESCRIPTION:The Colorado ASDA chapter is excited to announce the first annual Beat Tooth Decay 5k.  This event emphasizes the importance of both a healthy body and a healthy mouth. Colorado ASDA is a dental student-led organization that prioritizes advocacy and service through dentistry. We are proud to be teaming up with the Dental Lifeline Network as our charitable partner. The Dental Lifeline Network has treated over 12\,205 patients in the Denver area since 1985 and our goal is to ensure that the DLN remains a force for good within the community for the years to come. Come out\, have fun\, and help us beat Tooth Decay! \nThe race will be held at 9:00 am on April 21st\, 2018 at Sloan’s Lake Park in Denver.  All participants signed up BEFORE April 1st will receive an official race T-shirt. The event will be chip timed and runners\, joggers\, and walkers are welcome! Dental hygiene goodie bags will be provided to participants. Unfortunately\, no dogs will be allowed in the run. Packet pickup will be race day starting at 7 am on site and Friday\, April 20th at the Anschutz Medical Campus (more details to be released soon). DESCRIPTION:HANDS ON-Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Administration Training\nPresented by Dr. Jeffrey Young \nAnxiety and pain are two of the main obstacles to the acceptance of dental care. Appropriate administration and use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen can be a safe\, effective means to alleviate mild to moderate fear and anxiety. In addition\, it may diminish responses to pain and elevate pain threshold. \nThis course will provide an introduction to the pharmacology\, mechanism of action and effects of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen. The goals of anxiolysis\, including clinical applications\, indications\, advantages/disadvantages and biohazards of administration will be presented. The monitoring and recognition of potential complications will be discussed. \nA review of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen equipment and technique for safe administration will be presented followed by a demonstration of the administration and use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen inhalation equipment in a dental clinic setting. Participants will then practice administration and monitoring using actual inhalation equipment. \nThis is a one-day course with approximately five (5) hours of classroom instruction followed by two (2) hours of clinical demonstration and practice. At the end of this course\, participants will clearly understand the indications for use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen and be able to provide safe administration and monitoring. \nEducation Objectives \n\nDiscuss and understand the basic pharmacology and effects of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\nReview the anesthesia continuum and the Colorado State Board of Dentistry regulations regarding the administration and monitoring of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen in the dental office\nKnow the goals of anxiolysis including advantages and disadvantages of inhalation administration\nDiscuss indications and contraindications for safe administration of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\nUnderstand how to monitor patients and recognize potential complications of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen\nReview the inhalation equipment used for administration of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen in dental offices\nBecome proficient in administration and monitoring of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen by practicing with inhalation equipment in a clinical setting\n\nDr. Jeffrey Young earned his DDS from the University of Iowa and is a retired Army Colonel. Have an “unused” laser in the closet? \nGive your practice a boost by harnessing laser technology with a positive result that manages effectively day-to-day periodontal to soft tissue patient conditions. Dr. Low shows you how to choose the right laser and apply simple techniques that result in precision\, controlled bleeding\, accelerated healing\, reduced post-operative issues\, shorter procedure time and a more relaxed experience for the patient. He presents procedures including non-surgical periodontics (laser bacterial reduction\, curettage) frenectomy\, gingivectomy\, restorative troughing\, biopsy\, fibroma removal\, implant uncovering and TMD bio-stimulation with consideration of coding and patient acceptance. \nExperience direct hands-on activity with diode lasers on a variety of models including a pig jaw. Dr. Boyesen is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She maintains a private practice in periodontics and implant dentistry in Littleton\, CO. \nDr. Bryan Limmer obtained his DMD from Harvard University in 2009. He then continued his dental education at the University of North Carolina by completing a 3-year residency in prosthodontics\, earning both a specialist certificate and master’s degree in 2012. Following residency\, Dr. Limmer completed an additional 1-year fellowship in implant surgery and bone grafting at the University of North Carolina. He has extensive training in both the surgical and prosthetic aspects of implant therapy\, as well as the treatment of patients with very complex dental problems.
