I am MDDS: Dr. Ryan Cooper

Suncreek Dental Group

Can you tell us about the moment you first realized you wanted to pursue a career in dentistry?
It was during a visit to my orthodontist. I remember being fascinated by the way they transformed smiles and boosted confidence. Watching the intricate process of working on patients and seeing the joy on patients’ faces as they completed their treatment really inspired me. I admired not just the technical skills involved, but also the personal connections made with each patient. That experience sparked my interest in dentistry and set me on the path to explore this rewarding field!
How do you stay up to date with the latest developments in dentistry, and what areas of dentistry excite you the most today?
I prioritize attending events like the Rocky Mountain Dental Convention (RMDC) and DS World for continuing education. These gatherings provide invaluable insights into emerging techniques, technologies and trends. One area that excites me the most is digital dentistry. As a CEREC user, I’ve experienced firsthand how digital workflows can streamline processes, enhance precision and improve patient outcomes. The ability to create restorations quickly and effectively has transformed my practice and the way I connect with patients. The potential for innovation in this area keeps me motivated and eager to learn more.
You have a passion for restoring classic muscle cars. Are there any parallels between the precision required in dentistry and the meticulous work of restoring classic cars?
Absolutely! Both fields demand a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to craftsmanship. Just as a dentist carefully analyzes a patient’s needs and meticulously performs procedures to ensure optimal health, restoring a classic car requires a similar level of precision—whether it’s rebuilding the engine, fine-tuning the suspension or repainting the body. In both cases, the satisfaction comes from seeing the result of your hard work, transforming something that might seem worn or broken into a masterpiece. Each step requires patience, skill, and often a bit of creativity to solve problems as they arise.
How do you balance your family life with a busy dental practice? What are some of your favorite activities to do as a family?
It can be challenging, but it’s about setting boundaries and prioritizing quality time. Once I leave the office, it’s family time. I do stay available for emergencies, but when I’m not at the office, my focus is entirely on my family.
We love to travel together, and we’re big Disney fans, often planning trips to create lasting memories. I also cherish the time spent watching my kids in their various sports and activities; it’s a joy to support them and be part of their experiences. These moments are what make the busy days worthwhile.
As a member of the MDDS Exhibits Committee, how has your involvement shaped your perspective on the dental community and its continued growth?
My involvement has profoundly shaped my perspective on the dental community and its ongoing growth. Participating in the planning and execution of the dental convention provides me with a unique look into the inner workings of the event, revealing the details that go into creating a successful experience for attendees and exhibitors alike. It has also highlighted the collaborative spirit within the dental community. I’ve witnessed how professionals from various backgrounds come together, sharing knowledge and resources. This sense of unity reinforces my belief in the importance of community engagement in driving the profession forward.
What’s next for you professionally?
Are there any goals or dreams you still hope to accomplish within the dental field? I’m currently focused on building a new office, which will be completed next year to allow for growth and expansion. This new space will enable me to enhance patient care and incorporate advanced technologies.
In the future, I aim to expand my services, giving my patients the best treatment outcome available. I also dream of mentoring younger professionals in the field, sharing knowledge and fostering a supportive community. Ultimately, I want to contribute to advancing dental practices and improving patient experiences.
