If you rob a bank and give the money to the poor, have you done the right thing? If you restore teeth with the best possible porcelain veneers when the teeth do not need veneers, have you done the right thing? Bleaching teeth is one of the many treatments that everyone should have in their treatment options in order to do the right thing at the right time. Once you have determined to do the right thing, then you need to do the thing right (according to the wisdom of my late esteemed colleague, Dr. Dick Tucker).
DENVER – August 3, 2016 – On August 2, 2016 the Associated Press released an article contradicting one of the most basic pillars of daily oral hygiene care. The AP article states that benefits of flossing are unproven. Despite these claims, the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Metro Denver Dental Society (MDDS) maintain that cleaning between your teeth once a day with an interdental cleaner (such as dental floss) along with brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, eating a balanced diet and visiting your dentist regularly are all important aspects of preserving your oral health.
The CDC estimates nearly half of all adults (47%) age 30 and older have some form of periodontal, or gum disease. By age 65 and older, approximately 70% of adults have periodontal disease. Cleaning between your teeth, where a toothbrush cannot reach, is proven to help remove plaque and the more than 500 bacterial species that live in it, which can lead to cavities and gum disease.
Returning to the Board of Directors is: Dr. David Klekamp, DDS, CDA Trustee; Dr. Michael Scheidt, DDS, MS, Alternate CDA Trustee; and Drs. Karen Franz, DDS, Brett Levin, DMD, Kevin Patterson, DDS, and Eric Rossow, DDS, as Directors. MDDS would like to thank Drs. Ian Paisley, DDS; Walt Vogl, DDS and Brandon Hall, DDS to their service to the board of directors.
The MDDS Board of Directors serve as the managing body for the association and direct its strategic initiatives, mission and vision. The Board of Directors works closely with the MDDS Executive Director to move the society forward and expand benefits for members. When asked about the new board line-up, MDDS Executive Director, Elizabeth Price, CDE, had this to say, “I couldn’t be more excited about the coming year with our newly installed Board of Directors. We have a well-rounded group that I believe represents the MDDS membership and is eager to get started and implement our strategic goals.”
