MDDS Presents: HANDS-ON Creating Predictable Restorations: Crown Lengthening
March 5 @ 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
HANDS-ON Creating Predictable Restorations: Crown Lengthening
Presented by Dr. James Kohner
Faced with a cusp fractured below the gingiva? Prepping too far under the gingiva and not getting predictable impressions? Planning esthetic restorations in the anterior and facing uneven tissue or a “Gummy Smile”?
Crown extension is one of the most commonly required procedures in restorative dentistry, yet it is often underutilized. Enjoy an in-depth look at the evidence-based concepts and practical applications for clinical crown lengthening and learn how to enhance predictability for your restorations and impressions. Gain the peace of mind that you are current in your treatment planning choices.
Techniques discussed include how to handle hard and soft tissues; proper surgical techniques; preservation of esthetics in the final tissue contours; and relocation of all structures that comprise the biologic width, namely: sulcus, junctional epithelium, connective tissue fibers and bone. The seven-hour, hands-on workshop offers the opportunity to practice these procedures on pig jaws and anatomically correct models. The workshop is suitable for clinicians with any level of surgical experience who want to do some or most of their own crown extensions or want to know more about the subject.
- Practice how to make predictable impressions every time
- Discover why some crowns come loose and how to prevent it
- Learn chair time-saving methods and profit-generating strategies
- Identify the causes of red gum tissue around margins
- Master diagnosing esthetic crown lengthening
- Understand the Gummy Smile
- Become familiar with coordinating surgery with restorative procedures

MWDI Parking Information
For your convenience, we have free parking in two retail garages within the Beauvallon building (east-facing side). Both garages are accessed from Lincoln Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. Parking in these garages is available on a first-come, first-served basis. ** If you are attending a large course/event at the MWDI, we recommend arriving early in case the garages fill and alternative parking must be secured. Be aware – the garages come up quickly after you cross 9th Avenue and both have left lane entrances. All numbered spaces within both retail parking garages (without “Reserved” signs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not park in any spaces with a red sign that says “Matrix” or “KCNC.” Do not park in the residential parking. Residential garages are at the back of the retail garages. The north and south garages are not connected. Both have open parking available.
