Nutrition is the science of how the body uses food to support growth, development, repair and maintenance. Just as educating patients about oral hygiene is essential, discussing nutrition is equally critical for preventing chronic disease and promoting overall health. This webinar will cover nutrition fundamentals, with an emphasis on sugar, vitamins A, C, and D, and water, and explore their connection to oral health. Attendees will gain three practical strategies dental professionals can use to help patients understand the role of nutrition in disease prevention and healing.
- Explain the role of sugar in inflammation and its impact on oral health.
- Discuss the primary functions of vitamins A, C, and D in maintaining oral health and preventing disease.
- Discover the recommended daily water intake formula to prevent dehydration and support oral health.
- Describe the fundamentals of nutrition as they relate to growth, development, repair, and maintenance of the body.
- Identify three actionable strategies dental professionals can use to help patients recognize the role of good nutrition in disease prevention and healing.
Lani McBeth, BS, RDH, is a prevention strategist, clinician, speaker, author, and CEO of OWL: The Oral Wellness Link. With 38 years of clinical experience, she blends Western and Eastern approaches to uncover the oral-systemic connection and empower patients toward whole-body wellness. Lani is an Expanded Functions Hygienist and lifelong learner with 900+ hours of advanced training. She now shares her expertise globally through speaking and writing. She co-leads oral cancer screening workshops across the US and remains an active contributor to the profession through volunteer leadership and community outreach.
