Presented by Dr. Maryanne Butler
In our dental offices, we see patients with mucogingival, periodontal and peri-implant diseases. Commonly we are asked, “How do you classify these according to the new system recommended by the American Academy of Periodontology and when is it appropriate to treat or to refer?“ Dr. Butler discusses the systematic approach to the identification and diagnosis of mucogingival, periodontal and peri-implant diseases. She presents a decision tree process for each condition, mapping out the appropriate time for intervention and/or referral.

Objectives:

  • Identify, diagnose and classify mucogingival diseases
  • Identify when a mucogingival disease needs intervention or referral
  • Identify, diagnose, and classify periodontal diseases
  • Identify when a periodontal disease needs intervention or referral
  • Identify, diagnose, and classify peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
  • Identify when peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis need intervention or referral

Dr. Maryanne Butler is a periodontist specializing in periodontal disease, oral medicine and dental implants. She received her DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry and earned a certificate in periodontics and an MS with specialty in oral medicine from Louisiana State University. She maintains two private practices in Denver and Parker, and also treats patients in Steamboat Springs. Dr. Butler is a member of several professional associations and has a passion for education, the oral systemic link to periodontal health and oral medicine.

MWDI Parking Information
For your convenience, we have free parking in two retail garages within the Beauvallon building (east-facing side). Both garages are accessed from Lincoln Street between 9th and 10th Avenues. Parking in these garages is available on a first-come, first-served basis. ** If you are attending a large course/event at the MWDI, we recommend arriving early in case the garages fill and alternative parking must be secured. Be aware – The garages come up quickly after you cross 9th Avenue and both have left lane entrances. All numbered spaces within both retail parking garages (without “Reserved” signs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Do not park in any spaces marked “Matrix” or “KCNC.” Do not park in the residential parking. Residential garages are at the back of the retail garages. The north and south garages are not connected. Both have open parking available. See link for more information.
